British Airways

The first benefit you gain by travelling in premium economy is an increased baggage allowance of two free checked bags each weighing up to 23 kilograms plus two items of hand luggage.

On the plane you are seated in a private dedicated cabin that contains a maximum of six rows to help make your trip a bit more peaceful. The seat is larger than the normal economy seat with extra legroom and better seat recline. The seat pitch is 38 inches.

You receive a complimentary newspaper and an amenity kit that includes toothbrush, toothpaste, earplugs, eye mask and flight socks.

British Airways are currently in the process of upgrading their premium economy experience and will introduce new seating and an enhanced entertainment system to the Premium Economy cabin. The new personal screen will be touch enabled and will be 60% larger than the current screen. This upgrade is scheduled to take place from this autumn.

Virgin Atlantic

Virgin Atlantic Premium Economy entitles you to an additional bag of 23kg or less and you have a access to dedicated premium economy check in.

You can board the aeroplane as soon as boarding opens and enjoy your pre-departure drink. There is a separate Premium Economy cabin on the flight with larger dark purple leather seating, with a 38” seat pitch and a width of 21 inches. The seat is an ergonomic S-shape, with a dual position footrest.

There is an upgraded meal served on china along with pre-flight drinks and an after dinner liqueur. You will also receive an upgraded amenity kit in a slimline stylish wallet.

When you arrive in South Africa you can expect only a short wait for your priority baggage before you leave the airport.
